Reclaim Your Heart | Book Review

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening,

Hope your day is going exceptionally well.

So as I stated in a recent post, I got Yasmin Mogahed's book 'Reclaim Your Heart' and oh my days...it is incredible! I literally limited myself to the number of pages I could read a day because I didn't want to finish it too quickly! Every chapter, page and paragraph got to me; some parts making me both emotional and hopeful.

This book is Yasmin's perspective on her struggles in life - with a spiritual (religious) approach. It explains why and how we should react to issues like loss, sadness and even things that aren't as bad as that! The book opens with a number of comments from readers, thanking Mogahed for her continuous wisdom and way of interpreting what happens in this life. She expresses herself and sends her message to readers in such a graceful way - with beautiful metaphors being used as well as using nature as a way to symbolise human beings and our behaviours.

I would highly recommend anyone with struggles (let's face it - we all have our issues) read it. It'd also be an excellent read for anyone wanting to convert/revert to Islam; as it shows some true dedication to Islam, no matter what troubles one may will face.

If you have read this brilliant book, or plan to, let me know what you think!

P.S. I have a video up with me talking about the book too!

Reclaim Your Heart

Hello,

I got Yasmin Mogahed's Reclaim Your Heart book (yay - been wanting to get it for a while!) and found this paragraph pretty inspirational.

"There's something amazing about this life. The very same worldly attribute that causes us pain is also what gives us relief: Nothing here lasts. What does that mean? It means that the breathtakingly beautiful rose in my vase will wither tomorrow. It means that my youth will neglect me. But it also means that the sadness I feel today will change tomorrow. My pain will die. My laughter won't last forever - but neither will my tears. We say this life isn't perfect. And it isn't. It isn't perfectly good. But, it also isn't perfectly bad, either."

Tip of the day: Pick out something positive in your day.

Yasmin Mogahed

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening lovelies,

Today I am going to briefly discuss Yasmin Mogahed. She is titled as a 'Public Figure' on her Facebook page, and I'm sure you'll find that you've read a quote by her before. So, without further-a-do I shall talk about the reason behind this blog post.

A couple of years back I attended several 'Islamic Lectures', to which started off well! However, overtime the lectures felt more intense less helpful, but instead quite frightening. Needless to say it messed with my head! This is why I value Yasmin's talks so much. The way she speaks/writes show her wisdom and the true beauty of Islam, without coming across as harsh.

Here I'll copy a piece of writing from her book 'Reclaim Your Heart'! And I think you'll be able to see why I like her talks so much! Enjoy! Hana x

'And yet, in society, there is another prevalent “master” which has defined for women their worth. And that is the so-called standard of beauty. Since the time we were little, we as women, have been taught a very clear message by society. And that message is: “Be thin. Be sexy. Be attractive. Or…be nothing.”
So we were told to put on their make-up and wear their short skirts. Instructed to give our lives, our bodies, our dignity for the cause of being pretty. We came to believe that no matter what we did, we were worthy only to the degree that we could please and be beautiful for men. So we spent our lives on the cover of Cosmo and we gave our bodies for advertisers to sell.
We were slaves, but they taught us we were free. We were their object, but they swore it was success. Because they taught you that the purpose of your life was to be on display, to attract and be beautiful for men. They had you believe that your body was created to market their cars.
But they lied.
Your body, your soul was created for something higher. Something so much higher.'
